The ambitious project, named “Stargate,” was introduced during an event at the White House attended by Trump, Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.

The partnership will begin with an initial $100 billion investment, expanding up to $500 billion over the next four years. Stargate will operate as a standalone company, focusing on building cutting-edge AI capabilities and infrastructure.

“We want to keep this innovation here, in America,” Trump emphasized, highlighting China as a significant competitor in the rapidly growing AI sector.

Stargate’s first major venture involves constructing data centers in Texas, an initiative already in progress, according to Ellison. OpenAI, in a statement on X, expressed that the project aims to “support the re-industrialization of the United States while bolstering national security for America and its allies.”

Softbank’s Masayoshi Son will serve as Stargate’s chairman, with prominent technology firms like Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI as core collaborators. Son’s earlier commitment of $100 billion to U.S. AI development, announced in December after a meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, was further expanded during this announcement.

Trump, known for encouraging ambitious investments, joked that he had pushed Son to increase his initial pledge to $200 billion. On Tuesday, Son quipped that his commitment now reached $500 billion, eliciting laughter from the audience.

In his remarks, Trump clarified that the Stargate project’s $500 billion investment is separate from Son’s earlier pledges, underscoring the monumental scale of the endeavor.

“This $500 billion Stargate initiative stands as an additional commitment, alongside Masa’s earlier $100 to $200 billion promise,” Trump noted.

The Stargate project marks a pivotal moment in America’s AI development, positioning the nation as a leader in cutting-edge technology while addressing economic growth and national security.
