Meta is reportedly gearing up to release a pair of Oakley smart glasses later this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The move would expand Meta’s AI-powered eyewear lineup, which currently includes a partnership with Ray-Ban. The article indicates that the new glasses will be based on Oakley’s Sphaera model, designed for athletes such as runners and cyclists, and will feature a centrally positioned camera for improved image and video capture.

Oakley, a subsidiary of Luxottica—which also owns luxury eyewear brands like Ray-Ban—may signal Meta’s potential plans to broaden its smart glasses offerings across additional brands in Luxottica’s portfolio.

Similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, the Oakley version is expected to include features like AI-powered tools, the ability to capture photos and videos, and voice command interaction. However, the report notes that the Oakley model will not include a display.

In addition to these glasses, Meta is reportedly developing a more advanced model, codenamed “Hypernova,” which will feature an integrated display for showing notifications from Meta’s smart assistant. This model, which could debut later this year, might also include touch-sensitive temple controls and a wrist strap for additional input options.

The Bloomberg article also highlights Meta’s broader ambitions in wearables. The company is said to be exploring the development of new devices, such as smartwatches and earbuds equipped with built-in cameras that can analyze the surrounding environment in real time. These products would be part of Meta’s strategy to further integrate AI into consumer technology and compete with similar offerings like the Apple Watch and AirPods. Interestingly, the report notes that Apple has also considered incorporating cameras into its own earbuds.

These developments reflect Meta’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in AI, augmented reality, and virtual reality, areas where it has invested heavily despite challenges with consumer adoption.
