Subscription Requirement Lowered as OpenAI Rolls Out Deep Research to More Users

OpenAI has officially expanded access to its Deep Research tool, making it available to all paying ChatGPT users. Originally introduced in early February, the feature was initially restricted to users on the $200-per-month Pro plan. Now, OpenAI has fulfilled its promise to extend Deep Research to Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise subscribers.

Plus users will now receive 10 Deep Research queries per month as part of their subscription. Meanwhile, Pro users will see their query limit increase from 100 to 120. The AI-powered tool enables ChatGPT to generate in-depth reports on nearly any subject, making it a valuable resource for users seeking comprehensive insights.

In addition to the broader availability, OpenAI has introduced enhancements to Deep Research. ChatGPT will now embed images alongside citations to provide more detailed insights. Furthermore, the system has been upgraded with improved recognition of file types, leading to better document analysis capabilities.

To use Deep Research, users can enter a prompt as usual and then select the Deep Research icon before submitting their request. Depending on the complexity of the query, generating a response can take anywhere from five to 30 minutes. OpenAI has acknowledged that Deep Research is currently “very compute intensive,” which means Free-tier users may have to wait before gaining access to the feature.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has announced that its Copilot AI will offer Voice functionality and the AI-powered Think Deeper tool at no additional cost, providing another option for users seeking advanced AI-assisted research capabilities.
